SAAS Case Study | Role: Interaction Design Director
This project involved collaborating with SAP and Grainger to provide new customer-focused ways for users and sales staff to find items as they moved Grainger’s extensive merchandise catalog online.
An Intelligent and Intuitive Online Catalog
Grainger’s parts catalog is renowned for its size. As the company transitioned the catalog online, new ways of analyzing data and searching for items were explored, including visual and categorical searches, proactive forecasting, and collections. Analysis of individual and corporate sales data allowed for repeat purchasing scheduling and provided sales staff with a larger picture to serve customers.
Collections
Collections provide an essential method for users and sales staff to manage site-specific content contextually. Collections could include projects, buildings, persons, or other ways of organizing content in ways meaningful to users.
Proactive Forecasting
Purchasing pattern recognition capabilities present a helpful timeline of past and future predicted purchases that would need to be made along a timeline graphic. This feature helps customers proactively plan for future maintenance purchases and long-term facility needs.
Comparative Product Functionality
Suppliers can proactively present alternative products as items are improved over time or if supply chain challenges exist. Users can research appropriate product substitutions and swap them confidently using the comparative product feature.
Visual Browsing
Nested visual browsing tiers accommodate users with various starting points. Users can build unique search pathways, and intelligent pathway tracking allows changing search criteria on the fly.
