Honda LINK App | Role: Interaction Design Direction, Client Relationship Lead
The Honda LINK app demonstrated how Honda owners could learn about and customize various aspects of their vehicles using the app. Exterior and interior features could be explored by scrolling the screen and clicking on features of interest. User modes could also be stored for recall.
Guiding Principles and Signature Moments
The team created design principles to ensure the app met the new Honda owner’s needs. Signature moments included an immersive vehicle panning navigation for portions of the app, vehicle feature tracking, vehicle mode settings, and signature swipe-to-select interactions.
A Full-Featured Vehicle Manual in the Palm
Using the Honda LINK app, vehicle owners could familiarize themselves with vehicle features and change settings to customize and personalize their vehicles. Working with Honda R&D staff, the LINK app interfaced with various Honda vehicles, serving as a powerful demonstration platform for future app possibilities.
Intuitive and Immersive Browsing
Using the Honda LINK app, vehicle owners could pan around images of the interior and exterior of vehicles to explore and customize features.
At Your Fingertips
Nested features were accessed by clicking the downward-facing arrow on the feature buttons. Sliding to the left revealed the various settings for a given feature, making the application architecture fairly flat, efficient, and intuitive.
Capturing the Day
A feature use log kept track of how features were being used. Instructional videos could be explored using the LINK app. The geolocation of the vehicle was shown in a map view. Common remotely triggered features such as unlocking the vehicle or triggering the horn to aid in finding a vehicle could be done from the app.
