Intuitive Account Management

This proposed redesign of Chase’s online banking interface is grounded in human-centered design principles and behavioral insights. Through research, we discovered that people tend to organize their financial lives not as a linear list of transactions or accounts but as a collection of purposeful "stacks"—modular groupings of funds aligned with personal goals, responsibilities, or mindsets.

Inspired by this mental model, the redesigned interface introduces a more intuitive and flexible structure, allowing users to manage their finances in a manner that is natural to them. Each stack functions like a smart, goal-oriented container—whether it's for saving for a vacation, covering monthly bills, or building an emergency fund. Users can dedicate specific accounts or subbalances to each stack, making their financial priorities more visible, actionable, and achievable.

This modular approach simplifies navigation, enhances clarity, and empowers users with a stronger sense of control and purpose in their financial journey. It transforms the experience from traditional banking into dynamic, personalized money management, bringing users closer to their goals with every interaction.

Chase online banking concept provided a variety of intuitive ways to manage money, save for goals and transfer funds.

A More Intuitive Way to Relate to and Control Finances

Customers are presented with a clear overview of their various accounts, visualized as interactive stacks of cards that invite direct, object-level engagement. Each card surfaces relevant information tailored to the account or financial goal it represents. Estimated buffer amounts that are safe to spend, along with progress bars indicating how close a customer is to reaching a specific savings target, are also included. This visual and tactile approach not only makes financial data more approachable but also empowers customers to manage their money with greater confidence and clarity.

Drag and Drop Functionality

The interface’s object-oriented design supports simple, intuitive interactions, such as dragging and dropping funds between accounts to initiate transfers. This tactile approach enhances usability by turning complex financial actions into familiar, gesture-based movements, making money management feel more natural and engaging.
